William Godwin Main Practice Area Commercial and Business Law, Technology and Construction, International Commercial Arbitration, Professional Negligence Profile Described as an 'outstanding advocate' and a leader in general commercial and insurance intrenational arbitration in Chambers UK Directory, William Godwin acts in disputes across a wide range of sectors in both arbitration and litigation. Cases include appearing for the policy holder accountants in the landmark decision of HLB Kidsons v Lloyds Underwriters on notification provisions in standard form professional indemnity policies and acting in related proceedings against insurance brokers and solicitors; successfully defending claims against a large Indian group before a London ICC panel arising from a turnkey project in Europe and advising the same group in relation to disputes concerning process plant in Africa; acting and advising in complex interrelated proceedings in several jurisdictions arising from the business affairs of Russian-based parties; and advising Malaysian clients on joint venture and supply agreements relating to import and export of cars into and from the UK. Other cases include complex shipping and shipbuilding arbitrations. William Godwin is an arbitration panel member of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission; a panel adjudicator of the Technology and Construction Bar Association and a lecturer at City University and at the School of Oriental and African Studies (London University).
